Babies need their diapers changed up to 7 to 8 times a day. A baby's delicate bottom is easily irritated by moisture, contact with urine and feces, or friction from the diaper. Therefore, each diaper change requires extra care. Here are some helpful tips for effectively cleaning your baby's diaper area.

When should it be replaced?
• Two options: before or after feeding (depending on the baby's preference).
• Some babies don't like to eat when their diapers are wet, while others will defecate immediately after feeding.
• Change the diaper immediately if it gets soiled.
Replacement frequency
Generally, diapers need to be changed 6 to 8 times a day in the first few weeks after birth.
1. Preparation
Wash your hands to avoid transmitting germs to your baby.
• Prepare all necessary supplies (cleaning products, towels, diapers, skin cream) to avoid leaving your baby unattended.
• Place a towel on the changing table to prevent minor accidents during the changing process.
2. Initial cleaning
• Open the diaper, wipe away most of the dirt with the clean side of the diaper , roll up the diaper and secure it with adhesive tape, then put it in a sealed bag.
3. Cleaning
• Wash your baby's bottom with water and a soap-free cleansing gel designed for babies , or wipe with a cotton pad soaked in a no-rinse cleansing solution .
• Once your baby's skin has matured, you can also use wet wipes .
4. Cleaning Precautions
• Always wipe from clean areas to dirty areas to avoid spreading dirt.
• For baby girls: Rub from the vulva (outer labia to the middle) towards the buttocks.
• Baby boy: First clean the penis, scrotum and surrounding area, then clean the buttocks.
5. Drying
• Gently pat dry with a clean towel or tissue (do not rub), paying attention to skin folds to avoid friction that may cause discomfort.
• If possible, leave your baby's bottom exposed for a few minutes to allow for ventilation.
6. Prevention (diaper rash)
• Apply diaper rash cream every time you change a diaper, at least before bedtime, to prevent redness and swelling.
• If your baby develops severe diaper rash, consult a midwife or pediatrician.
7. Change into a clean diaper.
• Place a clean diaper under the baby's bottom, adjust it to the abdomen position, not too tight , and then secure it with the adhesive tape.
• For baby boys, please position the penis downwards to prevent urine leakage .
• Finally, wash your hands carefully.
