Influencing factors
The good news about atopic dermatitis is that it usually appears early and tends to lessen or even disappear with age. But when will it disappear? This depends on the child's skin sensitivity , daily skincare routine, and the child's environment and activities during both the acute and remission periods . Remission periods are generally favorable; while they don't mean symptoms have completely disappeared, daily care is crucial, and prevention is key. Make the most of every opportunity.
The development and onset of atopic dermatitis
Some general observations:
• The first signs of atopic dermatitis can appear as early as 2 months of age , or even earlier. Before one year of age , it mainly appears in chubby areas of the baby : chin, cheeks, arms, abdomen, etc., and may also appear on the lower legs and feet. At this time, atopic dermatitis may also occur during teething or nasopharyngeal infection.
• After one year of age , atopic dermatitis may appear on other parts of the body, moving from chubby areas to skin folds : elbows, legs, neck, behind the knees, wrists, and even behind the ears, which are common sites for the rash.
• At three to four years old , seizures may still occur in skin folds, or on the hands and face , such as around the mouth and eyelids. However, the seizures may begin to subside .
• It may disappear completely by age five to six ! Even if the child's skin is still dry, large areas of eczema may subside , so special care is still needed.
Do we have to wait until the child grows up? Not necessarily! Eczema may disappear around age two or a few months later , or it may persist into adolescence , and in rare cases, even into adulthood. The reason? It's currently unclear, but it's definitely not related to the treatment. The only certainty is that it will eventually subside . One last piece of good news? Even with frequent and severe flare-ups, it won't leave any marks on the skin !
